Maximize your visit to Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks this summer by using our recommended driving routes to see the famous giant sequoia trees. The national park service has recently completed serveral road improvement projects ahead of schedule, making more areas of the park accessible to visitors.
The Giant Forest area of Sequoia National Park, featuring the General Sherman Tree, Moro Rock, Tunnel Log and more, is open and accessible to visitors via the Highway 198 entrance. Visitors can travel to and from Giant Forest from the Ash Mountain entrance station. Note that visitors may still encounter delays as construction continues in the vicinity between Hospital Rock and Giant Forest Museum.
Access to Boyden Cavern on Highway 180 west of Cedar Grove is also open. Work continues to complete repairs for access to Cedar Grove, estimated to be complete by mid-June.
For a direct route into the park, without road work delays, travel Highway 198 to Highway 63 North, "Downtown Visalia", and connect with Highway 180 and enter the parks via the Big Stump entrance in Kings Canyon. (Estimated drive time is 1.25 hours.) Once in the National Park, continue south on the Generals Highway towards Sequoia National Park. See the map provided below.
Delay and closure schedules are subject to change, and we recommend anyone planning to visit during this time to check the park website for the most current information: https://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/road-construction.htm
