In Visalia, you’re at the gateway to an unrivaled tour of three of the country’s most spectacular national parks we call the Majestic Mountain Loop.
It’s hard to imagine, but you can visit all three of these parks – Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and Yosemite – in as little as three days, simply by following the Loop. Along the way you can see the largest living tree, explore fascinating underground caves, hike to stunning waterfalls, and feast on some of the most magnificent vistas of the high sierra. Take your pick of special activities such as hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing, snowshoeing and much, much more.
Eager to know more? Here’s our itinerary to help you complete the loop, starting right here in Visalia:
Sequoia – Get an early start for an amazing day filled with spectacular sights at Sequoia National Park – home of the General Sherman Tree, the world’s largest single-stem tree. You’ll also find the Giant Forest Museum, offering a close-up look at this world-famous destination, and you might contemplate a hike to the top of Moro Rock. Don’t leave without driving through Tunnel Log, a rite of passage for many travelers.
Kings Canyon – On Day 2, head north to Kings Canyon National Park to see the General Grant Tree, the star attraction of Grant Grove. A visit to Boyden Cavern pays off in riveting underground formations. You can take your picnic basket to scenic Zumwalt Meadow, and round out the day by driving to Road’s End for a bracing hike on your choice of hiking trails. As the day winds down, head for Oakhurst, just outside Yosemite, to rest up for Day 3.
Yosemite – Finish your grand tour in one of the most famous national parks on the planet. Yosemite, designated as a World Heritage Site in 1984, offers Bridalveil Fall, Cathedral Peak, and the U-Shaped Valley, each one a spectacle unto itself. Don’t miss the awe-inspiring Half Dome rock formation, an unforgettable visual and a challenge to even the most experienced and best-equipped hikers.
Make Visalia and Oakhurst your homebase for exploring California's three most majestic national parks.
